In spite of the mass exodus out of Melbourne due to extended lockdowns, Melbourne is forecast to become Australia’s most populous capital city by 2030.

Data from the Centre of Population suggests Melbourne is set to overtake Sydney with the growth rate rising, becoming the fastest-growing capital from 2023 onwards.
